Executive Director Stephen Horsfield

Stephen Horsfield has spent his career preparing to become the Executive Director of Simpson Housing Services. Steve’s core values are deeply rooted in social justice and servant leadership; he believes that every person deserves dignity, respect and the fulfillment of life’s basic needs.
For the past 8 years, Steve has been an integral part of the Salvation Army’s Harbor Light Center where he served first as the Business Manager and for the last 4 years as the Chief Operating Officer. As the COO, Steve has been responsible for the success of the shelter and housing programs including finance, fundraising, programs, case management, facilities and staff development. Prior to his professional work in the nonprofit sector, Steve had a 10-year career at UnitedHealth Group, managing operations and process improvement initiatives.
He is a key leader in the homeless service movement in the Twin Cities and is active in Heading Home Hennepin and other strategic collaborations. Steve currently serves as the Board President of MESH (Metro-Wide Engagement on Shelter and Housing), a public/private collaborative whose mission is to form partnerships to build metro-wide solutions that will end homelessness and increase affordable housing choices.
Steve earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and a Masters degree in Industrial Relations with a secondary concentration in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Business.
Steve, who is married and has a ten-year-old son, enjoys riding and tinkering with motorcycles and is an avid camper and traveler. He and his family reside in St. Paul. Steve has a passion for and deep commitment to ending homelessness. Steve’s first formal day at Simpson Housing Services will be June 11, 2012.
