Men's and Women's Shelters

“Providing emergency shelter, meals and support services to single, adult men and women in our community who are experiencing homelessness.”

Men’s Shelter Snapshot
“Providing beds to 40 single men a night.”

  • A total of 1,971 men were served (includes men who were not staying at shelter but received meals and support services).
  • A total of 655 men received a bed. A total of 810 men were turned away for a bed.
  • 114 men were moved into housing by shelter advocates.
  • 63% of the men were 40-60 years old.
  • 42% were African-American, 29% were Caucasian, 14% were Latino.
  • 38% had no source of income; 35% worked full or part-time.
  • 48% had been homeless for less than a year.
  • 50% reported a mental illness and chemical dependency.
  • 64% reported a drug/alcohol dependence.


Women’s Shelter Snapshot

“Providing a bed to an average of 19 women a night.”

  • A total of 289 women were served.
  • There were 542 turn-aways.
  • 56% of the women were between 36 and 55 years old.
  • 27% were victims of domestic abuse.
  • 39% were African-American; 26% were Caucasian; 23% were Latino; 8% Native American; 1% were Asian.
  • 41% had no source of income; 8% worked full or part-time.
