Single Adult Housing

  Cynthia from the SARA program has been settled in her one-bedroom apartment for over a year. She worries about her friends who remain vulnerable out on the streets.
   

“Through our Single Adult Rental Assistance (SARA) Program, the newly formed Women’s Housing Partnership, and collaboration with Hearth Connection and Group Residential Housing (GRH), 156 single adults were served in 2007.”

“A successful year housing single adults with a history of long-term homelessness (an average of 13 years).”
38 single adults served

  • 87% were stably housed in 2007.
  • 78% maintained or increased their income.
  • 88% paid rent in a timely
    manner and have remained in housing their entire tenure
    in the program.
  • 47% live with mental illness.
  • 81% live with chemical dependency.
  • 54% are age 50-59. 22% are veterans.
  • 41% have suffered serious head trauma at some point in their life.
  • 47% were in foster care, were adopted or had runaway as children.
  • 43% are Caucasian; 22% are African American; 19% are Native American; 13% are Latino.
