Simpson's Rental Assistance Program (RAP)
The goal of the Rental Assistance Program is to help qualified families
remain in housing, by providing rental assistance and limited support
services, until they are able to either maintain that housing with
their own funds or obtain permanent subsidized housing. This program
serves homeless families who may be nearing the completion of transitional
housing programs and are already on waiting lists for permanent
supportive housing, but who need more time because the length of
the wait is so long. The capacity of the program is 30 families.
Who the Rental Assistance Program Serves
- Homeless families with children who are nearing the completion of a transitional housing program or staying in a shelter.
- Families who are living or wish to live in Hennepin County.
- All households enter the program at less than 30% of the median income for a family of four. Currently in Hennepin County, this is $23,010 per year.
- All program participants are expected to be working or in school within 60 days of entrance.
What Assistance is Provided?
- Rental assistance is based on the participant's income with the participant paying 30% of their income and SHS paying the remaining portion of the rent directly to the landlord.
- This program has a rental subsidy cap based on family size.
Participants are given resources and referrals when needed, however limited support services are available. Family Support Advocates meet monthly with program participants.
