Shelter Guest BBQ Provider
Shelter Guest BBQs occur May–August to give shelter guests an opportunity to enjoy a Minneapolis park one Saturday afternoon per month. Volunteers have a choice of joining in at the BBQ; providing, cooking and sharing the meal, or providing food that staff will then prepare.
Responsibilities:
- Purchase and deliver or purchase and prepare food for approximately 40 shelter guests, serving between 1 – 2 pm.
- Provide/Set up grill(s) for cooking hamburgers and hotdogs
- Bring plates, plastic ware, coolers, ice
- Fill out record form for statistical purposes
Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate and work with people of diverse backgrounds
- Responsible, reliable, patient and respectful
Time Commitment
2.5 hours per shift, approximately 11:45 AM – 2:15 PM plus additional time for planning, purchasing, and preparing the meal.
Saturdays, May 24, June 28, July 26, August 30, 2008.
Training
There is no specific training for this position. Materials will be provided for your group and guest speakers are available to provide an orientation or discussion with the group. Please contact the Meal Service Coordinator to schedule.
Facilities
BBQ will take place at a Minneapolis Park.
Menu
Can vary: hamburgers/veggie burgers, hot dogs, chips, potato salad/pasta salad, watermelon, variety of sodas, condiments, cookies/ice cream bars.
