Women's Shelter Hot Meal Provider Information
With friends, family or coworkers, plan a menu using your favorite recipes or recipes from our website, purchase groceries, cook and serve a meal to approximately 25 guests.
Responsibilities:
- Purchase and prepare the food for 25 guests.
- Serve the meal at 6:30 pm.
- Save food for guests arriving late.
- Cleanup of dishes, eating area and kitchen.
- Fill out meal record form for statistical purposes.
- Provide two gallons of milk/beverage. Some will be used for breakfast the next morning. Please bring napkins. A gallon of juice is always appreciated.
Qualifications:
Ability to communicate with people of diverse background.
Responsible, reliable, patient and respectful.
Time Commitment
Approximately 2 hours per shift, plus additional time for planning, purchasing, and preparing the meal. Volunteers may arrive as early as 5 pm to start the meal preparation. On Fridays volunteers cannot arrive until 5:30 pm.
Training
There is no specific training necessary for this opportunity. Groups will have the opportunity to tour the shelter and learn about homelessness in our community.
Facilities
Meals can be made in advance and warmed at the shelter or prepared completely at the shelter. The kitchen available on-site includes a convection oven, hot plate (no stove), microwaves, refrigerator, freezer, pots, pans, utensils, and dinnerware.
