Sandwich Provider

Sandwich providers prepare meat and cheese sandwiches which are given to the shelter guests for lunch. Providers must purchase the food items needed for the sandwiches. Most groups make 100 sandwiches at a time.

Responsibilities:

  • Purchase plastic gloves, bread, meat, cheese and sandwich bags. (Often times bakeries will donate bread.)
  • Prepare the sandwiches. Use at least one slice of meat and one slice of cheese per sandwich. Please use meats such as ham, turkey, salami, bologna or roast beef. DO NOT use tuna or chicken salad, peanut butter or jelly, butter, or any condiments on the sandwiches.
  • Put each sandwich in a sandwich bag and then put the individually wrapped sandwiches back in the original bread bags for easy storage. Next, label the bread loaf bag with the date made and type of meat.
  • Sandwiches can be made off site or at Simpson Housing Services. Groups that come to SHS will receive a tour of the Men's Shelter and optional activities may be provided (film, budgeting activity, homelessness quiz, etc.)
  • Deliver sandwiches to Simpson Housing Services. Please call ahead. Delivery information can be found on the in-kind donation page.

This is a flexible commitment. Providers can prepare sandwiches one time or on a regular basis.

There is no specific training for this opportunity. Materials will be given to the group and guest speakers are available to provide an orientation, reflection, or discussion with the group. Please contact Volunteer Services Manager, Christina Giese to schedule.
