Women's Shelter Hot Meal Provider Information
The meal provider purchases, prepares and serves a meal to approximately 25 guests in the overnight shelter. The guests are women with hearty appetites, so please prepare enough food. Well-balanced meals including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are appreciated. Leftover food will be served at the women's shelter.
Responsibilities
- Purchase and prepare food for 25 guests.
- Serve the meal at 6:30 p.m.
- Save food for guests arriving late.
- Perform cleanup of serving supplies, eating area, and kitchen.
- Fill out meal record form for statistical purposes
(in the women's shelter office.)
- Provide 2 gallons of milk for breakfast, napkins, and plastic containers for leftovers. 1 gallon of juice is always appreciated!
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Responsible, reliable, patient and respectful.
Time Commitment
- 1 hour per shift plus additional time for planning, purchasing and preparing the meal.
- Volunteers may arrive at 6:15 PM to prepare for serving. Please call to schedule with staff if more time is necessary.
Training
New groups will meet with Women’s Shelter Advocates for a facilitated discussion about the organization and areas of service. Discussion should take no longer than 10 minutes. A tour of the shelter will also be provided for meal groups.
Facilities
Kitchen on-site includes a refrigerator, microwave, convection oven, hot plate, utensils, glasses and dinnerware. The kitchen is not equipped with a stove, but meal can be cooked in the shelter or off site.
