Art 4 Shelter Artist: Ann Sisel

Posted on May 10th, 2019

Ann’s abstract paintings incorporate vivid colors and textiles. Her life-long love of art was inspired by her mother, who was also a painter. Ann went back to Macalester College for her fine arts degree when she was 40 years old. She continues to immerse herself in her creative work during retirement.

I am really passionate about making art in this crazy world of ours. I love abstract art and I love using unusual materials and tools, such as sticks and ice scrapersto spread the pigment. … My intuitive style is very exciting at this point in my life. I try to paint as a child would and just play until I like what I create,”says Ann.

Ann also likes to experiment with new themes in her art; immigration is a theme she is pursuing now.

Ann’s artwork has been accepted in over 20 national shows, and she has received several awards. Her art will be shown at Art Piece Soul, a new gallery on Selby Avenue in St. Paul.

Ann was born in Nebraska, and she has lived in St. Paul for more than 40 years.
